Uplink Data Files

in the Galileo Uplink Archive

Overview

This Galileo uplink archive, which ranges from Launch through Europa 11, contains sequence products which cover the same period of time, but are in many different formats and are generated at different points in the sequence development process. Each type of product contains information about spacecraft and ground events during a given period of time but addresses different needs for the various components of the flight team.

For further information on the types of files on the disk, see the Introduction section of the file AAREADME.HTM.

The data files are housed in the DATA directory. This directory has two subdirectories: CRUISE, for cruise phase data, and ORBITAL, for orbital phase data. Each of these directories is further divided into subdirectories for particular time periods and targets.

Each individual data subdirectory contains data files along with a structured PDS label for each data file. Each label file has the same file name as the primary data file but have a suffix (.LBL) attached. Every label file will contain information pertaining to the data in its respective data file.

Each individual orbit directory contains several types of data files. They contain uplink data files, Integrated Sequence of Events files (ISOE) and their corresponding labels, data losses files and timelines which is a PDF formatted timetable outline for each orbit.

A table of the sequence boundaries for the Galileo mission can be found in the file SEQBOUND.HTM in the DOCUMENT directory under the root directory of this disk.

Information on spacecraft safing can be found in the file SAFING.TXT in the DATA directory.

Documents

This disk contains documentation files which describe the data on the disk, the instruments from which the data came, and the Galileo spacecraft and mission. These files are found in the CATALOG and DOCUMENT directories.

File Formats

The files on this disk are in level 2 compliance with the ISO 9660 standard. The uplink data are provided as ASCII text files.

File Naming

The names of the data files reflect the files' contents. ASCII data files have .TXT or .TAB extensions. The first part of each file name is the sequence ID. The second part indicates the type of data in the file:

There also are PDF files (extension .PDF) under DATA, which contain images illustrating various aspects of the data.

For further information on these files, see the AAREADME.HTM file and the CATALOG and DOCUMENT files.
