Magnetic Field Calibrated 1 Minute Averaged Data Archive
Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node
Planetary Data System
This volume is part of the Cassini Orbiter Magnetometer Calibrated Data volume
set. It contains Cassini magnetometer (MAG) 1 minute averaged calibrated data
covering 1999-08-16 (DOY 228) to 2016-12-31 (DOY 366).
The Cassini Orbiter Magnetometer Calibrated Data volume set contains
calibrated RDR (Reformatted Experimenter Data Record) magnetic-field data from
the Cassini Fluxgate (FGM) and Vector-Helium (VHM) Magnetometers. These data
have been calibrated from the raw data, rotated into geophysical coordinates,
and averaged by the Cassini MAG team at Imperial College.
A more detailed description this data set is provided in the PDS catalog file:
The full-resolution data are available in the data set:
The data are in a variety of coordinate systems depending upon the mission
phase as indicated in the table below:
mission phase coordinates
all CRUISE phases RTN
Earth flyby GSE, GSM, RTN
Jupiter flyby J3, JMXYZ, RTN
Saturn oribital operations KRTP, KSM, KSO, RTN
This volume complies with Planetary Data System (PDS) standards, Version
3.8, described in Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) document JPL D-7669.
2. Volume format
This volume is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. It complies
with both the Universal Disk Format (UDF) and the ISO 9660 (level 2) file
system standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms.
3. File formats
The data files on this volume are provided as ASCII tables (.TAB file
extension). Each data file is accompanied by a detached PDS label file (.LBL
extension) which contains information describing the data file and data
Document files describing the volume, the data and data-calibration software
are included in the volume. These files are provided in PDF, and HTML.
Text files and detached label files contain 80-byte fixed-length ASCII
records, with a carriage-return character (ASCII 13) in the 79th byte and a
line-feed character (ASCII 10) in the 80th byte. This format allows the
files to be read by MacOS, DOS, UNIX and VMS operating systems.
4. Volume contents
The files on this volume are organized into one Root directory containing
several subdirectories. The following table shows the structure and content
of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square
brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and
lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file

are of the best possible quality, the PDS and the Planetary Plasma
Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no legal liability for errors
on this disk. All users of these data are encouraged to verify the correctness
of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these
