Voyager 1 Plasma Science Experiment (PLS) Saturn Data Bundle Readme          
                                                                             
Introduction

This document contains information pertaining to the Voyager 1 Plasma Science
Experiment (PLS) Saturn Data Bundle, which contains data recorded during the 
Voyager 1 Saturn Encounter and submitted to the Planetary Data System (PDS)  
by Voyager PLS investigators. This bundle includes Voyager 1 Saturn derived  
plasma electron browse, electron parameters, ion fits browse, ion fits, ion  
magnetosheath, ion moments and ion solar wind browse 96 second data. The     
Saturn Encounter phases have been defined as 1980-08-22 to 1980-12-14 for    
Voyager 1. Most of the instruments on Voyager 1 only recorded Saturn-related 
data for a portion of its Encounter Phase. This bundle includes data from    
1980-11-11 to 1980-11-21.                                                    
                                                                             
This bundle is organized into several collections, including Electron Browse,
Electron Parameters Browse, Ion Fits Browse, Ion Fit Browse, Ion Moments     
Browse, Ion Solar Wind Browse, Electron Browse 96 Second Data,  Electron     
Parameters 96 Second Data, Ion Fits Browse 96 Second Data, Ion Fits 96 Second
Data, Ion Magnetosheath 96 Second Data, Ion Moments 96 Second Data, Ion Solar
Wind Browse 96 Second Data, PLS Faraday Cup Data and document. PDS4          
documentation is all XML. There is an XML label for every product in the     
archive.                                                                     
                                                                             
Every effort has been made to insure that the data are of the best quality   
available.  However, users are encouraged to verify the correctness of the   
data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these       
data and report any issues to PDS/PPI.

These data sets were originally archived under PDS3 in the VG_1601 volume.   
                                                                             
Under the PDS3 standard all archives were self contained and could in        
principle be stored in a single file system (disk, CD-ROM, etc.).  PDS4 takes
advantage of network capabilities that allow archives to be                  
distributed.  As a result, some of the documents and meta data previously    
stored in the PDS3 catalog files are no longer maintained locally, but are   
maintained in a central repository.  Those files are referenced by unique PDS
logical identifiers that are included in the document collection inventory.
