Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) Ion Mass Spectrometer Data Bundle Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) Ion Mass Spectrometer Low-Res Data Collection Description PDS3_DATA_SET_ID = "PVO-V-OIMS-4-IONDENSITY-12S-V1.0" START_TIME = 1978-12-05T14:41:18.480 STOP_TIME = 1987-08-18T00:00:00.000 PDS3_DATA_SET_RELEASE_DATE = 1993-10-01 PRODUCER_FULL_NAME = DR. PAUL CLOUTIER Collection Overview =================== Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) Ion Mass Spectrometer Low-Res Data Collection contains ion density data from the Orbiter Ion Mass Spectrometer (OIMS) experiment for orbits 1-2996 (1978-12-05 - 1987-08-18), including data for the period periapsis +/- 30 minutes for for each orbit. The collection is divided into multiple files, each of which contains 1 orbit. The user should be able to easily get to any desired orbit by selecting the appropriate file. The user should be aware that some of the data columns have been coded. For example, the values -999999 is the missing data value for that point. Column Type Bytes Description =============================================================================================== PVO TIME ASCII_String 15 PVO TIME indicates the time of the sample as a two field value in the format YYDDD SSSSS.SSS, where YY is the 2-digit year, DDD is the day-of-year (Jan 1 = 001), and SSSSS.SSS is the second-of-day (space padded on the left). A value of 99999.999 for FSEC indicates that the value of FSEC was unavailable. This column can be parsed into its constituent elements using the format I2,I3,X,F9.3 ORBIT ASCII_Integer 7 PVO orbit number. PERISECS ASCII_Real 10 Seconds after periapsis, negative before periapsis. DEN_1 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 1 AMU particle. DEN_2 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 2 AMU particle. DEN_4 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 4 AMU particle. DEN_8 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 8 AMU particle. DEN_12 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 12 AMU particle. DEN_14 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 14 AMU particle. DEN_16 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 16 AMU particle. DEN_18 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 18 AMU particle. DEN_28 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 28 AMU particle. DEN_30 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 30 AMU particle. DEN_32 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 32 AMU particle. DEN_44 ASCII_Integer 8 Number density of 44 AMU particle. Confidence Level Overview ========================= The user should be aware that some of the data columns have been coded. For example, the values -999999 is the missing data value for that point. References ========== Brinton, H.C., L.R. Scott, M.W. Pharo, III, and J.T.C.
