MESSENGER EPPS EPS Raw Bundle Readme ======================================================================== Introduction ======================================================================== This is a PDS4 archive of the dataset MESS-E/V/H/SW-EPPS-2-EPS-RAWDATA-V2.0 that was originally archived under PDS3 in the MESSEPPSDATA_1001 bundle. Under PDS4 this bundle is organized into several collections, including Data-long_status, Data-status, Data-hi_spectra, Data-hires_spectra, Data-housekeeping, Data-lores_spectra, Data-med_spectra, Data-pha, Data-scan_rates, Data-summary_spectra, Calibration and Document. PDS4 documentation is all XML. There is an XML label for every product in the archive. Under the PDS3 standard all archives were self contained and could in principal be stored in a single file system (disk, CD-ROM, etc.). PDS4 takes advantage of the modern network capabilities that allow archives to be distributed. As a result, some of the documents and meta data previously stored in the PDS3 catalog files are no longer maintained locally, but are maintained in a central repository. Those files are referenced by PDS unique identifiers. This document contains information pertaining to the MESSENGER EPPS EPS Raw Bundle, which includes The EPPS is made up of two instrument subsystems, the Fast Imaging Plasma Spectrometer (FIPS), and the Energetic Particle Spectrometer (EPS). Thus two data sets were delivered within the original data bundle, the FIPS and the EPS. This bundle contains only the uncalibrated Energetic Particle Spectrometer (EPS) data. In some cases one file will be relevant to both data sets, in which case the data set id for both are included in the one label. This bundle is intended for the use of scientists and students in the study of the of the planet Mercury. The data may be used for research and publication. The PDS and the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no legal liability for errors on this bundle. All users are encouraged to verify the 'correctness' of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. Errors on this bundle should be reported back to the PPI Node of the PDS. ======================================================================== Contacts ======================================================================== For questions concerning these data products and documentation, contact: WWW Site: http://pds-ppi.igpp.ucla.edu Email: pds_operator@igpp.ucla.edu For questions regarding PDS Standards or other archive Bundles available from the PDS, please contact PDS Operator at the PDS Central Node (at JPL): Email pds_operator@jpl.nasa.gov Telephone (818) 354-4321
