  Non-Standard Practices                                                     
The PDS standards do not specify where to store the required MD5 checksum    
file for a volume.  We have placed it in the root dietary of the volume      
with the file name "CHECKSUMS.TXT".  This may be considered invalid by some

Conversion to ASCII table format                                             
                                                                             
The data in this data set were originally provided in ASCII, but with a      
non-standard time tag, and PDS version 1.0 labels. In the original release of
data set, the submitted binary data were preserved in the DATA/IOWA          
subdirectory, and a second, binary table version of the data set was provided
is a format that matched the other data sets on the VG_1002 CD-ROM volume.   
When PPI reorganized its data holdings into single data set structures,      
the binary version of the data set was moved to the /DATA/ORIGINAL_BINARY    
directory and an ASCII version containing a standard PDS time tag was        
added (Jan, 2013). All PDS labels were updated to the PDS 3.8 standard.

ASCII data file record formats                                               
                                                                             
ASCII data tables contained in this volume are fixed width and space         
delimited. The PDS Standards recommend using fixed width comma delimited     
fields in ASCII tables. In general this recommendation was not followed in   
order to provide data in the same format in which they were originally       
provided to PDS.

Copies of previously published documents found on the /DOCUMENT/ sub-        
directories contain some known misspellings. These either result from        
misspellings that follow the original documents or else errors introduced in 
the conversion of these documents to ASCII and PDF format.

In the CATALOG/VG_*_PERSON.CAT file the PERSONNEL_INFORMATION object contains
the element NOTE which is neither required nor optional, but does provide the
