This data set consists of subsurface-sounding data from the MARS EXPRESS MARS MARSIS EXPERIMENT DATA RECORD V2.0 Data Set that have been uncompressed, corrected for Automated Gain Control, aligned to a reference altitude and, except for data acquired using the SS2 mode, range-processed after correcting for the distortion of the transmitted signal caused by the ionosphere. ============================================================================== Volume Overview - Quick Start Guide ============================================================================== MARSIS data in the MARS EXPRESS MARS MARSIS REDUCED DATA RECORD SUBSURFACE V2.0 are located in the DATA directory, and are organized into sub-directories containing ten orbits each. A Data Product contains data from one or more observations collected using the same operation mode, instrument status and on-board processing scheme within the same orbit. Thus, the content of each MARSIS data product is highly variable in terms of number of echoes, and depends on how operations for the instrument were planned during a given data collection period. An echo is a sequence of time or spectrum samples of a received signal, complemented by auxiliary information. A Data Product is a table, in which each line contains data from a single echo, and each column contains the value of a single parameter or time sample across different frames. A Data Product consists of two files, one of which contains a PDS binary TABLE object while the other is a PDS label describing its structure. The first file contains the instrument data proper, organised into individual frames (i.e. processed echoes). Each frame corresponds to a record in the file, which is also a row in the PDS binary TABLE object into which frames are organised. A Data Product contains all frames acquired using the same instrument mode in tracking (TRK) state during a single orbit. ============================================================================== Volume Contents and Structure ============================================================================== [MEX-M-MARSIS-3-RDR-SS-V2.0] (root directory) | |-AAREADME.TXT Plain text describing volume contents, | organization, and its use (this file). | |-ERRATA.TXT Describes known deficiencies or caveats in the | data on this volume. | |-VOLDESC.CAT High level description of volume contents. | | |-[BROWSE] | | | |-[RDR####X] MARSIS browse images for a group of ten orbits from | ####0 to ####9. | | |-[CATALOG] Information about the Mars Express mission, spacecraft, | and the MARSIS instrument; lists the cognizant personnel | and references relevant documentation. | |-[DATA] Binary archived data from the MARSIS instrument. | | | |-[RDR####X] MARSIS Data for a group of ten orbits from ####0 to | ####9. | | |-[DOCUMENT] Instrument Flight User Manual, Experiment Interface | Control Document, etc. | |-[INDEX] Volume and cumulative indices of archive products. | |-[LABEL] Format descriptions of the archived data products. ============================================================================== Whom to Contact for Information ============================================================================== MEX Project Scientist: Dmitri Titov email: dmitri.titov@esa.int phone: +31 71 565 37 70 fax : +31 71 565 46 97 smail: ESA-ESTEC, SRE-SM Keplerlaan 1, PO Box 299 2200 AG Noordwijk ZH The Netherlands MEX Archive Scientist: Emmanuel Grotheer email: egrotheer@sciops.esa.int phone: +34 91 813 11 00(3) fax : +34 91 813 11 39 smail: ESA-ESAC Camino bajo del Castillo, s/n Urbanización Villafranca del Castillo Villanueva de la Cañada E-28692 Madrid Spain ============================================================================== Acknowledgments ============================================================================== The archiving effort at Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica - Istituto di Radioastronomia was supported by Federico Cantini, Marco Cartacci, Andrea Cicchetti, anton B.
