PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = FIXED_LENGTH RECORD_BYTES = 80 OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-01-14 NOTE = "This file describes the contents of this directory." END_OBJECT = TEXT END This directory contains Galileo Orbiter orbit and attitude (orientation) data in the form of SPICE kernels. The SPICE kernels are provided in two formats PC and Sun Solaris. These kernels are provided in this product both for completeness and to ensure that the kernels used in the processing of the data are included in the archive. The official archive of the Galileo SPICE products is maintained by the Navigation and Ancillary Information Facility (NAIF) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena CA. SPICE kernels can be obtained from the NAIF Node of the PDS for numerous platforms in addition to those provided here. In addition to being the PDS archive site for the SPICE kernels, NAIF provides and maintains a software toolkit (SPICELIB) for accessing the kernels. For more information about NAIF, SPICELIB, or to acquire kernels for platforms not support here, please visit the NAIF website (http://pds.jpl.nasa.gov/naif.html). The DOCUMENT directory on this cdrom describing the SPICE concept. Software will be available from the PPI Node in the future that will allow users access the SPICE kernels and perform simple data manipulations using them. This software will be available for both PC and Sun Solaris platforms. It will allow users to rotate vectors between various geophysical coordinate systems and/or to generate spacecraft trajectory data in those coordinate systems. This software was not complete at the time this cdrom was produced. Ephemeris data in tabular form can be found in the subdirectories of DATA/TRAJECT. Spacecraft ephemeris tables are available in both Jupiter and Io centered coordinates. These trajectory files are derived from the SPICE kernels on this disk.
