PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2014-01-22 NOTE = "AAREADME.TXT describes this volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END Cassini Orbiter Cassini Plasma Spectrometer CO-S/SW-CAPS-5-DDR-ION-MOMENTS-V1.0 Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System ============================================================================= Introduction ============================================================================= This volume contains data from the Cassini Orbiter Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) Derived Ion Moments data set. It contains all of the ion moments generated from the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) singles (SNG) and time-of-flight (TOF) data from the interval 2004-180 (28 Jun) to 2012-154 (02 Jun). A complete description of the design of this volume is given in the CAPS archive volumes software interface specification (VOLSIS). An electronic copy of this document is located on this volume in the /DOCUMENT/CAPS_SIS directory. This volume is intended for the use of scientists and students in the study of solar wind and planetary energetic and neutral particles. The data may be used for research and publication. ============================================================================= Volume format ============================================================================= This volume is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. All science data are located under the DATA directory. The INDEX directory contains a listing of all of the data products included on this volume. The CATALOG directory contains PDS documentation describing the mission, spacecraft, instrument, and data set. These include: CO_MISSION.CAT Cassini-Huygens mission descrip CO_INST_HOST.CAT Cassini orbiter spacecraft description CO_CAPS_INST.CAT CAPS instrument description CO_CAPS_DERIVED_ION_MOMENTS_DS.CAT CAPS derived ion moments data set description CO_CAPS_REF.CAT CAPS reference information CO_CAPS_PERS.CAT CAPS personnel contact information CO_PROJREF.CAT Cassini Project reference information Additional information on volume organization is given in the VOLSIS (described above), and in section the 'Volume Contents' below. ============================================================================= File formats ============================================================================= The data files on this volume are provided in ASCII table (TAB) format. Each data file is also accompanied by a detached PDS label file (.LBL extension). Catalog files (.CAT extension) are provided in ASCII format. Document files describing the volume and the data are included in the volume. These files are given in PDF and MS Word formats. ============================================================================= Volume contents ============================================================================= The files on this volume are organised into one Root directory containing several subdirectories. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file names. However, mistakes are inevitable. The PPI Node of the PDS will maintain an online list of ERRATA where errors and updates are documented. Should any user of this product find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PPI Node so that the finding can be made public. All users are encouraged to verify the correctness of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. There is a file called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume at the time this volume was published. If you find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PDS Operator at the PPI Node of the PDS. He was the PPI Node Data Administrator at the time this volume was created and understands as much about the volume structure and data organization as anyone. Other PPI personnel who may be aware of issues related to this archive volume include Mr. Joseph Mafi, and Dr. Raymond Walker, the PDS/PPI Node manager. The PDS and the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no legal liability for errors on this disk. All users are encouraged to verify the 'correctness' of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. Errors on this disk should be reported back to the PPI Node of the PDS through the ERRATA reporting procedures described above.
