PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2018-06-26 NOTE = "AAREADME.TXT describes this volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END Cassini Orbiter Magnetospheric Imaging Instrument Cassini at Saturn MIMI INCA Calibrated Data Archive Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System 1. Introduction This volume contains data from the CASSINI S MIMI INCA SENSOR CALIBRATED DATA V1.0 (CO-S-MIMI-4-INCA-CALIB-V1.0) data set which contains the calibrated Saturn tour data collected by the INCA sensor of the Cassini MIMI instrument. The data cover 2004-01-01 (DOY 001) through 2017-09-15 (DOY 258). A table describing the energy ranges associated with the MIMI channels is provided in the the /CALIBRATION directory. This data and additional documentation is also provided on the MIMI Reference Volume (COMIMI_0000). The latest version of the Reference Volume is available on-line at http://ppi.pds.nasa.gov/. The Ion and Neutral Camera (INCA) obtains remote images of the global distribution of energetic ions for energies from 7 keV/nucleon to 8 MeV/nucleon, discriminated according to energy and mass species (oxygen and hydrogen). To obtain the images, INCA measures the arrival directions, energy and mass species of Energetic Neutral Atoms (ENA's) using the relatively new technique of ENA imaging. INCA also can be commanded to obtain very high sensitivity ion measurements, providing the angular, energy and species distributions of in-situ O and H ions. The Cassini Magnetospheric Imaging Instrument(MIMI) Imaging Neutral Camera (INCA) calibrated data set includes all image data collected from the MIMI Data Processing Unit during the Saturn tour. The original data has been decommutated, decoded, calibrated and further processed by software at the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The calibrated image data is provided in three forms: an averaged form where the original image N x N pixel images pixels intensity are averaged to a single value for one species and time-of-flight (TOF) combination, browse images which display rows and columns of images for one species and TOF combination, and movies which display averaged ENA image skymaps. Calibration of INCA data has been described fully in the Cassini/MIMI Data User Guide. [VANDEGRIFFETAL2012] This volume complies with Planetary Data System (PDS) standards, Version 3.8, described in Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) document JPL D-7669. The PDS and the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no legal liability for errors on this disk. All users are encouraged to verify the 'correctness' of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. Errors on this disk should be reported back to the PPI Node of the PDS through the ERRATA reporting procedures described below. 2. Volume format This volume is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. It complies with both the Universal Disk Format (UDF) and the ISO 9660 (level 2) file system standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms. 3. File formats The data files on this volume are provided as ASCII comma-delimited tables (CSV files). Each data file is accompanied by a detached PDS label file (LBL file) which contains information describing the data file and data record format. Browse files on this volume are in Adobe PDF format. Document files describing the volume and data products are included in the volume. PDF/A, and 'clean' HTML versions are provided of all documents. The HTML version contains minimal markup and is provided in fulfillment of the PDS 3 requirement of an ASCII version of all document files. Text files and detached label files contain 80-byte fixed-length ASCII records, with a carriage-return character (ASCII 13) in the 79th byte and a line-feed character (ASCII 10) in the 80th byte. This format allows the files to be read by MacOS, DOS, UNIX and VMS operating systems. 4. Volume contents The files on this volume are organised into one Root directory containing several subdirectories. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file names. Errata Every effort has been made to ensure that the data and documentation are of the best possible quality. However, mistakes are inevitable. All users of these data are encouraged to verify the correctness of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. Should any user of this product find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PPI Node PDS Operator through the contact information provided below. The file ERRATA.TXT, found at the root level of this volume, contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume. An up-to-date version of this file is maintained online at the PDS/PPI node, and may be obtained through the PPI webpages (http:/ppi.pds.nasa.gov/). 6. Contacts This archive volume was produced at the PDS/PPI Node by Joseph Mafi under the direction of Dr. Steven Joy, the PPI Operations Manager. For questions or problems regarding this volume, please contact the PDS/PPI operator: Internet pds_operator@igpp.ucla.edu Telephone (310) 206-6073 A list of relevant Cassini MIMI personnel team is provided in the personnel catalog file (PERSON.CAT) that is associated with this volume.
