Simpson Stanford University ============================================================================== INTRODUCTION ============================================================================== This file contains an accumulation of corrections and notes for the Voyager 2 Saturn Radio Science Open-Loop (Occultation) Raw Data Set. ============================================================================== CORRECTIONS AND NOTES ============================================================================== VG_2348 At least one record was lost due to deterioration of the original C5XL16 magentic tape. ODR/C5XL16AA.ODR and ODR/C5XL16BB.ODR are the two file 'fragments' of good data that were recovered. C5XL16AA.ODR contains about 23 seconds of data; C5XL16BB.ODR contains about 75 seconds. VG_2350 Data from original tape C5SR09 are fragmented into five files (C5SR09AA.ODR through C5SR09EE.ODR) with a single 5056-byte record lost between each pair of files. Users should substitute data from C4SR10 on volume VG_2362. Data from C5XR30 ended unexpectedly at 07:09:41 rather than continuing to 07:10:00. The reason for the anomaly is not known; the remaining 19 seconds of data have been lost. There was no corresponding data from Recorder B. VG_2353 BROWSE/C0SR01AA.PS contains two copies of the power spectra plot rather than one copy of the spectra and a plot of sample power versus time. Reason for this error is not know; but often it occurs when the number of seconds of data to be plotted is not calculated correctly. VG_2355 C2XR15 through C2XR18 could not be located when the archive was constructed. Users should substitute data from C3XR03 through C3XR06 (see volume VG_2343). VG_2356 The following tapes/files could not be located when the archive was constructed. Users should substitute data from VG_2344 as indicated: VG_2356 VG_2344 Start Time Missing Data Equivalent Data ---------- ------------ --------------- 05:20:00 C2XR19 C3XR07 05:21:40 C2XR20 C3XR08 05:25:00 C2XR22 C3XR10 05:26:40 C2XR23 C3XR11 05:33:20 C2XR27 C3XR15 05:35:00 C2XR28 C3XR16 05:36:40 C2XR29 C3XR17 Data from original tape C2SL02 are fragmented into two files (C2SL02AA.ODR and C2SL02BB.ODR) with a single 5056-byte record lost between them. Users should substitute data from C3SL02 on volume VG_2344. BROWSE/C2SR02AA.PS and BROWSE/C2SR03AA.PS contain two copies of the power spectra plot rather than one copy of the spectra and a plot of sample power versus time. Reason for this error is not know; but often it occurs when the number of seconds of data to be plotted is not calculated correctly. VG_2357 BROWSE/C4SR01AA.PS contains two copies of the power spectra plot rather than one copy of the spectra and a plot of sample power versus time. Reason for this error is not know; but often it occurs when the number of seconds of data to be plotted is not calculated correctly. VG_2358 Data from original tape C4SR03 are fragmented into two files (C4SR03AA.ODR and C4SR03BB.ODR) with a single 5056-byte record lost between them. Users should substitute data from C5SR02 on volume VG_2346. VG_2361 Data from original tape C4XL28 are fragmented into four files (C4XL28AA.ODR and C4XL28DD.ODR) with a single 5056-byte record lost between each pair. Users should substitute data from C5XL25 on volume VG_2350. VG_2362 Data from original tape C6XR14 are fragmented into two files (C6XR14AA.ODR and C6XR14BB.ODR) with a single 5056-byte record lost between each pair. Users should substitute data from C7XR11 on volume VG_2351. VG_2363 X-band calibration data on these volumes may be of limited value. thru It appears that the X-band signals on both RCP and LCP were VG_2368 being clipped at or before the analog-to-digital conversion. Histograms of sample values show DNs only between about 70 and 180 (the possible range is 0 to 255); power spectra show sidebands around the carrier. The data acquired later (from Saturn) do NOT show such artifacts, so a simple conclusion is that the calibration was not executed correctly whereas the Saturn observations are OK. VG_2364 Record 3557 in original file C8XR10 had only 805 bytes. This record was removed. The remaining data have been split into files C8XR10AA.ODR and C8XR10BB.ODR; labels for each were constructed by hand.
