PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2002-08_20 NOTE = "This file describes the Plasma Wave data available on this DVD-R volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END This directory contains the 4 second and 48 second res. wave electric field intensity data from the Plasma Wave instrument on Voyager 2. These data were recorded from the Jupiter encounter period of 1979-07-02 to 1979-08-03. It also contains the calibration data. The 4 second data are stored as a VAX binary file (.DAT), accompanied by a PDS label (.LBL) which describes properties of the data file. The 48 second data are stored as an ASCII table, accompanied by a PDS label file. The calibration data are in an ASCII table used for converting the uncalibrated 'data numbers' contained in data files to calibrated volts. A PDS label (SA_CL_4S.LBL) is also provided for this file. Additional information associated with this data set is available in the following files: file contents /CATALOG/PWSINST.CAT PWS instrument description /CATALOG/PWSA4DS.CAT data set description for 4 second data /CATALOG/PWSA48DS.CAT data set description for 48 second data /CATALOG/PERSON.CAT personnel information /CATALOG/REF.CAT key reference description /DOCUMENT/PWS/PWSINST.ASC ASCII and HTML versions of the PWS investigation and PWSINST.HTM description paper [SCARF&GURNETT1977] /-------------------------\ | SA 4 SECOND DATA | \-------------------------/ Columns ==================================================================== name type description -------------------------------------------------------------------- year integer_2 year past 1900 in units of years hours integer_2 hour of year starting at 24 in units of hours second integer_2 second of hour in units of seconds milli integer_2 millisecond of second in units of milliseconds fd_mod16 integer_2 FDS modulo 65536 (spacecraft clock) count fd_mod60 integer_2 FDS modulo 60 (spacecraft clock) count fd_lines integer_2 FDS line (spacecraft clock) count (1-800) inst_mod integer_2 instrument data format mode (0-31) channel integer_32 16 2-byte channels of uncalibrated e-field for channel n whose center frequencies range from 10 Hertz to 56.2 kiloHertz and which are logarithmically spaced in frequency, four channels per decade. /---------------------------------\ | SA 4 SECOND CALIBRATION DATA | \---------------------------------/ ====================================================================== name type description ---------------------------------------------------------------------- data number i3 uncalibrated data number channel voltage -- 16 1pe8.2 format voltages for channels 1-16 /-------------------------\ | SA 48 SECOND DATA | \-------------------------/ Columns ======================================================================== name type description ------------------------------------------------------------------------ time a24 time in the format yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sssZ data channel -- 16 1pe9.2 format 48 second averaged wave electric field values for one of the PWS data channels (volts/meter). Center frequencies for the individual channels may be calculated using the formula freq = 10**(1 + (n-1)/4) where n = channel number. wvfrmavl i2 waveform flag (1 = wide band waveform data available)
