PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = FIXED_LENGTH RECORD_BYTES = 80 OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2004-07-01 NOTE = "AAREADME.TXT describes this volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END Volume VGLE_CRUISE Voyagers 1 and 2 Low Energetic Charge Particle (LECP) Instrument Uncalibrated Data Archive Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System ============================================================================= Introduction ============================================================================= This CD-R comprises one of many data volumes of the LECP uncalibrated data volume set. It contains documentation regarding data formats, data, and PDS labels which comprise the collection of data received from the LECP instruments onboard each of the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft. This volume is subject to routine updates. The latest version may be obtained from the PDS/PPI node (http://pds-ppi.igpp.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/ditdos?volume=). This volume is intended for the use of scientists and students in the study of heliospheric and solar wind of energetic and neutral particles. The data may be used for research and publication. This volume complies with Planetary Data System (PDS) standards, Version 3.6, described in Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) document JPL D-7669. ============================================================================= Volume format ============================================================================= The disk is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. The disk complies with ISO 9660 (level 2) file system standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms. The DOCUMENT directory contains copies of various documents associated with the MIMI uncalibrated data. The GEOMETRY directory contains information describing sensor fields of view. The INDEX directory contains a listing of all of the data products included on this volume. The CATALOG directory contains PDS documentation describing the mission, spacecraft, instrument, and data set. Note that updated versions of all files may be available from PDS-PPI ============================================================================= File formats ============================================================================= The data files on this volume are provided in ASCII comma-separated value (CSV) format. Each data file is also accompanied by a detached PDS label file (.LBL extension), an ASCII file containing information describing the data file and data record format. Catalog files (.CAT extension) are provided in ASCII format. Note, however, that as '.CAT' is a reserved file extension under MS Windows it may be necessary to specify a text editor when opening PDS catalog files. Document files describing the volume, the data and data-calibration software are included in the volume. These files are given in HTML and ASCII formats. Text files and detached label files contain 80-byte fixed-length ASCII records, with a carriage-return character (ASCII 13) in the 79th byte and a line-feed character (ASCII 10) in the 80th byte. This format allows the files to be read by MacOS, DOS, UNIX and VMS operating systems. Note that while both label and catalog files are ASCII, some operating systems will not recognize the .LBL and .CAT extensions as ASCII types. It may be necessary to either remap these extensions as ASCII in the system or text browser, or else to open the files from within the text browser. ============================================================================= Volume Set Information ============================================================================= The Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft LECP uncalibrated volume set (V1LECP_0XXX and V2LECP_0XXX) includes the following volumes: Volume No. Contents ---------- -------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================= Volume contents ============================================================================= The files on this volume are organized into several subdirectories as described above. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file names. However, mistakes are inevitable. The PPI Node of the PDS will maintain an online list of ERRATA where errors and updates are documented. Should any user of this product find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PPI Node so that the finding can be made public. All users are encouraged to verify the correctness of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. There is a file called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume at the time this CD was published. Any changes or errors that are found on this or any V1LECP_0XXX or V2LECP_0XXX volume can be found at the PDS/PPI website (http://www.igpp.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/ditdos?errata=). If you find an error on this disk, please report the error to the PDS Operator at the PPI Node of the PDS.
