ULYSSES DDS AREA TABLE

-

DATA FILE DESCRIPTION

The sensitive area of the Ulysses dust detector is tabulated as a function of the incident angle with respect to the sensor axis. Area values are in cm**2, not normalized. They are a numerical simulation of a stream of particles striking the detector at different angles, taking shadowing into account. There are slight variations with azimuthal angle which are not reflected in the table. These are less than 10 percent variations.

ColName Units Start Byte Format
1 SENSOR AXIS ANGLE DEGREES 1 F5.2
2 DETECTOR AREA SQUARE CENTIMETERS 6 F8.2

SENSOR AXIS ANGLE - This is the angle to the sensor axis where zero is along the axis.

DETECTOR AREA - The sensitive detector area exposed corresponding to the projected area of the hemispherical detector visible to an incoming particle traveling along a path at the SENSOR AXIS ANGLE.
