Volume MGN_9015 Magellan Radio Science Experiment Original Data Records (ODR) Solar Wind Scintillation and Faraday Rotation Experiments Planetary Plasma Interactions Node of the Planetary Data System ============================================================================== Introduction ============================================================================== This disk contains Magellan Mapping cycle 3 data submitted to the Planetary Data System (PDS) by MGN Radio Science Experiment project investigators. Every effort has been made to assure that the data are of the best quality available. However, the PDS and the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no liability for this disk or its contents. All users are encouraged to verify the "correctness" of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. This CD-ROM contains data for the time period between between 1992-05-31T05:44Z through 1992-06-02T05:03Z. ============================================================================== Volume Set Information ============================================================================== This CD-ROM is the fifthteenth disk of the MGN_9xxx series. It is the fourteenth disk in the series which contains actual ODR data files. The first disk in this series contains navigation (NAVIO) data, DSN logs, and other ancillary information necessary to process these data. All of the ancillary files were packaged on a single CD-ROM at the request of the Radio Science investigators. ============================================================================== Errata ============================================================================== There is a file called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a cumulative list of changes and errors made to any MGN ODR CD (volume set MGN_(xxx) created by this production date. Any changes or errors that were found to any MGN_9xxx CD after the production of this volume can be found at http://www.igpp.ucla.edu/public/pds/ERRATA/MGN_9XXX/ERRATA.TXT. ============================================================================== Disk Format ============================================================================== The disk is organized into a hierarchical directory structure which the PPI Node hopes will be both intuitive for the user as well as easy to use. The disk is formatted according to both ISO 9660 and POSIX (Unix) standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms. All of the label, table, and text files are ASCII with CR/LF (VAX / IBM-PC) format. The basic organization of the disk is as follows: CATALOG CATALOG.CAT, containing instrument, data set, and data quality templates can be found on volume MGN_9001. MANAGE contains data management information for the DITDOS software. Users do not need to make use of any of these files directly, however, the software which allows DITDOS to extract and reformat data files needs to have this information. INDEX contains a cumulative index table which describes the location of all files on the disk for users who do not wish to make use of the DITDOS software. DATA contains all data in a branching tree structure of sub-directories. Data files are given a pass filename of the form "ydddhhmm.ODR" where y is the last digit of the year (2), ddd is the day-of-year, hhmm is the hour and minute of the first record in the data file. DOCUMENT contains textual material that describes instrument and data set. This can include references to science papers, or the actual papers. ============================================================================== File Format ============================================================================== All files on this disk are described by detached version 3.2 PDS labels. Version 3.2 of the PDS label does not support detached TEXT file labels, however, TEXT file labels are detached on this disk. PDS labels are identified by a .LBL file name extension. There is one label file for each text and data file contained on this disk and the file name prefix is the same as the file the label describes. The data on this disk are identified with PDS short labels. The PDS label files are located in the data directory alongside the data files. ============================================================================== Volume Contents ============================================================================== This section describes the volume structure and naming conventions. This basic disk structure is described in the disk format section. Here we describe the directory structure of this volume and the names/contents of the key files in each directory. Catalog Directory: This disk does not contain any catalog information. All catalog templates for the MGN-ODR data set are contained on volume MGN_9001. key files: CATINFO.TXT - explains where to find catalog information. Data Directory: The data files, labels, and format description document are contained in the DATA subdirectory. Data files have the name ydddhhmm.ODR where y is the last digit of the year (2), ddd is the day-of-year, hhmm is the hour and minute of the first record in the data file. key files: INFO.TXT - explains the directory contents ydddmmhh.ODR - ODR data file corresponding to start time ydddmmhh. ydddmmhh.LBL - PDS label for data file ydddmmhh.ODR RS11_10A.TXT - an ASCII version of document RSC 11-10A which describes to structure of the ODR tapes (files) for the Magellan project. Document Directory: The document directory contains an electronically scanned version of document RSC 11-10A which describes to structure of the ODR tapes (files) for the Magellan project. The document is stored in two different forms: 1) raw ASCII text which can be viewed on a computer screen but does not contain any figures, and 2) the raw scanned image bit maps in TIF compressed 3 format which can be loaded into many different word processors such as WordPerfect, Adobe, etc. and then sent to a printer. key files: DOCINFO.TXT - describes the directory contents and software available for TIFF file conversion and display. RSC.ASC - ASCII text version of RSC 11-10A RSCxx.TIF - scanned image of page xx of RSC 11-10A in TIFF compressed 3 format. RSC.LBL - PDS document label describing the RSC document and it forms. Index Directory: The index directory contains a cumulative index (INDEX.TAB) which contains an index of all files in the ODR volume series (MGN_9xxx) and a local index (LCL_INDX.TAB) which points to every file on this volume. The index files are ASCII tables which can be easily loaded into a database or spreadsheet program. The index files are described by a detached PDS labels. key files: INDXINFO.TXT - explains the directory contents. INDEX.TAB - cumulative index for all MGN_9xxx volumes. LCL_INDX.TAB - index file which gives the location and file information for each file on this volume (MGN_9015). Manage Directory: This directory contains several IGPP flatfiles which are used by some of the software in the software directory. These files are not intended for direct use by a user so there are no PDS labels. key files: No user files in this directory! ============================================================================== Driver and Hardware Information ============================================================================== This disk has been formatted according to the ISO standard for CD-ROM production (9660) with level 1 compliance. Any system which complies with this standard (all of them should) should be able to access this disk.
