                    INDEX Directory Contents

     The INDEX directory contains tabular index files, accompanied by
detached PDS labels, intended for database use.  The following files
are found in this directory.

INDXINFO.TXT - The file you are reading.

MERGINDX.TAB - Index table for merged telemetry files on this volume.

MERGINDX.LBL - PDS label for MERGINDX.TAB.

SUNPINDX.TAB - Index table for sun pulse files on this volume.

SUNPINDX.LBL - PDS label for SUNPINDX.TAB.

COMMINDX.TAB - Index table for uplink command files on this volume.

     The index directory also contains a table (and PDS label) with
information about outages or gaps in the merged telemetry data files.
The file name of the table is OUTAGES.TAB (PDS label is OUTAGES.LBL).
The table lists the volume_id, product_id, start and stop times of the
data gaps, a description of the cause of the gap, and any corrective
action applied to the product.  The table is cumulative, listing all
data outages for all Lunar Prospector volumes released.


                 Notes on Using the Index Tables

     The index and cumulative index tables in this directory contain
one row (record) for each data product in the Lunar Prospector Level 0
data archive.  There are two index files for each data set that has
multiple data files.  One of the two index table contains records for
data products on this volume.  The other index table is a cumulative
index for data products on all volumes released thus far.  All tables
are formatted so that they can be read directly into many data
management systems or spreadsheet programs.  All fields are separated
by commas, and character fields are enclosed in double quotation marks
(").  Character fields are left justified, and numeric fields are
right justified.  Each record ends with ASCII carriage return and line
feed characters.  This allows the table to be treated as a fixed
length record file on computers that support this file type and as a
normal text file on other computers.

     Each index file has a PDS label file that describe the content
and structure of the fields in the table, including field name,
format, and description.  The values for start byte and number of
bytes listed in the label file do not include commas between fields or
quotation marks surrounding character fields.
