***** File AAREADME.TXT This compact disk (CD-ROM) is one of a 2-disk set containing data obtained through the efforts of the International Halley Watch (IHW) Disciplines and the Lead Center. These volumes are devoted to data returned by the intercept spacecraft for comet Halley and the International Cometary Explorer (ICE) for comet Giacobini-Zinner as listed below: COMET DATSASET NAMES DISK HALLEY GIOTTO DUST IMPACT DETECTOR SYSTEM 25 GIOTTO RADIO SCIENCE EXPERIMENT 25 GIOTTO HALLEY MULTICOLOR CAMERA 25 GIOTTO ION MASS SPECTROMETER HIGH ENERGY RANGE 25 GIOTTO ION MASS SPECTROMETER HIGH INTENSITY 25 GIOTTO JOHSTONE PARTICLE ANALZER MERGED 25 GIOTTO MAGNETOMETER 8 SECOND DATA 25 GIOTTO OPTICAL PROBE EXPERIMENT 25 GIOTTO PARTICLE IMPACT ANALYZER DUST MASS 25 SAKIGAKE INTERPLANETRAY MAGNETIC FIELD 25 SAKIGAKE SOLAR WIND EXPERIMENT 25 SUISEI ENERGY SPECTRUM PARTICLE 25 VEGA1 DUST PARTICLE COUNTER MASS ANALYSER 26 VEGA1 INFRARED SPECTROMETER IMAGING CHANNEL 26 VEGA1 INFRARED SPECTROMETER HIGH RESOLUTION CHANNEL 26 VEGA1 PLASMAG-1 PLASMA ENERGY ANALYSER 26 VEGA1 PUMA DUST MASS SPECTRA 26 VEGA1 PUMA DUST MASS SPECTRA-MODAL 26 VEGA1 DUST PARTICLE IMPACT PLASMA DETECTOR 26 VEGA1 DUST PARTICLE IMPACT DETECTOR 26 VEGA1 TUNDE-M ENERGETIC PARTICLE ANALYSER 26 VEGA1 TELEVISION SYSTEM 26 VEGA1 TELEVISION SYSTEM-KFKI 26 VEGA2 DUST PARTICLE COUNTER MASS ANALYSER 26 VEGA2 PLASMAG-1 PLASMA ENERGY ANALYSER 26 VEGA2 PUMA DUST MASS SPECTRA 26 VEGA2 PUMA DUST MASS SPECTRA-MODAL 26 VEGA2 DUST PARTICLE IMPACT PLASMA DETECTOR 26 VEGA2 DUST PARTICLE IMPACT DETECTOR 26 VEGA2 TELEVISION SYSTEM 26 VEGA2 TELEVISION SYSTEM-KFKI 26 VEGA2 TELEVISION SYSTEM-IKF 26 GIACOBINI-ZINNER ICE ENERGETIC PARTICLE ANISOTROPY SPECTROMETER 26 ICE MAGNETOMETER 26 ICE PLASMA WAVE ELECTRIC FIELD 26 ICE PLASMA WAVE MAGNETIC FIELD 26 ICE RADIO WAVE 26 ICE SOLAR WIND PLASMA ELECTRON ANALYSER 26 These are the last CD-ROMs of the Comet Halley archive, volumes 25 and 26. In addition to the data themselves, the disks contain a wide variety of supporting files and tools for the Archive user; the major categories are documentation, ephemeris information, searchable tables and indices, and software (source code as well as executable modules). These have been organized into three principal directories one level below the root: DOCUMENT INDEX, and SOFTWARE. It is suggested that the Archive user review the document files listed below before roaming through the multi-level data directories. There is one file, CDSTRUCT, in the DOCUMENT directory that is a complete listing of files (with path) organized by Logical Block Number. /DOCUMENT/VOLINFO.TXT Brief guide to use of disks /DOCUMENT/CDTREE.TXT Schematic, annotated layout of disk /DOCUMENT/ESA_1066/*.TXT A brief description of each mission /DOCUMENT/ESA_1077/*.TXT A brief description of GIOTTO experiments The time period covered for this volume (25) is March 03-14, 1986. All of the text files on this disk have fixed length records padded to 80 or 132 bytes per record. The last two characters of each record are a carriage return and line feed. This has been done to files with the following extensions (*.DOC, *.LBL, and *.TXT).
