This disk contains a subset of the Extended Mission data from the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Magnetometer and Electron Reflectometer (MAG/ER) instruments, submitted to the Planetary Data System (PDS).
Users are encouraged to provide comments back to the PPI Node of the PDS if errors or omissions are found either in data or in documentation. Please send comments by e-mail or U.S. mail to PDS Operator as defined at the end of this document.

This volume contains MGS MAG/ER data from the Extended Mission. The Extended Mission began on 2001-02-01. The data included on this volume are Mars data from days 2001-07-15 through 2001-09-18.
The data on this DVD are organized into 7 top-level directories named MGSM_2064 through MGSM_2070. Each of these directories is a virtual CD, or "logical volume," having the same directory structure as a PDS data CD-ROM. Users should be able to use the data in any one of these top-level directories as though the directory were the root directory of a separate, standalone CD.
Further information on the contents of the individual logical volumes can be found within the volumes themselves. In particular, see the file AAREADME.TXT under each of the logical volume directories on this DVD.
The following list shows which days of data are contained in each logical volume on this DVD.
Logical Volume | First Day | Last Day |
-------------- | --------- | -------- |
MGSM_2064 | 2001-07-15 | 2001-07-24 |
MGSM_2065 | 2001-07-25 | 2001-08-02 |
MGSM_2066 | 2001-08-03 | 2001-08-12 |
MGSM_2067 | 2001-08-13 | 2001-08-21 |
MGSM_2068 | 2001-08-22 | 2001-08-30 |
MGSM_2069 | 2001-08-31 | 2001-09-14 |
MGSM_2070 | 2001-09-15 | 2001-09-18 |
There is a file called ERRATA.TXT, found at the root level of each logical volume, which contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with that volume at the time this disk was published. The file AAREADME.TXT at the root level of each logical volume describes procedures for obtaining an updated errata list and for reporting errors on the volume. If you find an error on this disk, please report it. Only through support and feedback of the users of these data can an effective errata list be maintained.
The person most directly responsible for the construction and release of this DVD is Dr. Mark Sharlow. He was the data engineer at the time this disk was created and understands as much about the disk structure and data organization as anyone. Other PPI personnel who may be aware of issues related to this DVD include Mr. Steven Joy, the PPI Node Data Administrator, and Dr. Raymond Walker, the PDS/PPI Node manager.

The PDS, and the Planetary Plasma Interactions (PPI) Node in particular, assume no legal liability for errors on this disk. All users are encouraged to verify the "correctness" of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. Errors on this disk should be reported back to the PPI Node of the PDS through the ERRATA reporting procedures described above.
