PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2019-10-25 NOTE = "AAREADME.TXT describes this volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END Volume COMIMI_0000 Cassini Orbiter Magnetospheric Imaging Instrument Uncalibrated Data Archive Reference Volume Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System ============================================================================== Introduction ============================================================================== This volume is the Reference Volume of the Cassini Orbiter Magnetospheric Imaging Instrument (MIMI) uncalibrated data volume set. It contains documentaton and calibration information which is necessary to interpret the data products on the data archive volumes. This volume is subject to routine updates. The latest version may be obtained from the PDS/PPI node A complete description of the design of this volume is given in the MIMI archive volumes software interface specification (VOLSIS) which is given in the /DOCUMENT/MIMI_VOLUME_DESCRIPTION directory. This volume is intended for the use of scientists and students in the study of solar wind and planetary energetic and neutral particles. The data may be used for research and publication. This volume complies with Planetary Data System (PDS) standards, Version 3.6, described in Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) document JPL D-7669. ============================================================================== Volume format ============================================================================== The volume is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. The volume complies with ISO 9660 (level 2) file system standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms. The CALIBRATION directory contains the algorithms and data necessary to convert the data into useful physical quantities. The DOCUMENT directory contains copies of various documents associated with the MIMI uncalibrated data. The GEOMETRY directory contains information describing sensor fields of view. The INDEX directory contains a listing of all of the data products included on this volume. The CATALOG directory contains PDS documentation describing the mission, spacecraft, instrument, and data set. These include: MISSION.CAT Cassini-Huygens mission description INSTHOST.CAT Cassini orbiter spacecraft description INST.CAT MIMI instrument description CO_MIMI_CHEMS_DS.CAT MIMI CHEMS uncalibrated data set description CO_MIMI_INCA_DS.CAT MIMI INCA uncalibrated data set description CO_MIMI_LEMMS_DS.CAT MIMI LEMMS uncalibrated data set description CO_MIMI_REF.CAT MIMI reference information PROJREF.CAT Cassini project reference information PERSON.CAT MIMI personnel contact information Note that updated versions of these files may be available from PDS-PPI Additional information on volume organization is given in the VOLSIS (described above), and in the section 'Volume Contents' below. ============================================================================== File formats ============================================================================== The data files on this volume are provided in ASCII comma-separated value (CSV) format. Each data file is also accompanied by a detached PDS label file (.LBL extension), an ASCII file containing information describing the data file and data record format. Catalog files (.CAT extension) are provided in ASCII format. Note, however, that as '.CAT' is a reserved file extension under MS Windows it may be necessary to specify a text editor when opening PDS catalog files. Document files describing the volume, the data and data-calibration software are included in the volume. Text files and detached label files contain 80-byte fixed-length ASCII records, with a carriage-return character (ASCII 13) in the 79th byte and a line-feed character (ASCII 10) in the 80th byte. This format allows the files to be read by MacOS, DOS, UNIX and VMS operating systems. Note that while both label and catalog files are ASCII, some operating systems will not recognize the .LBL and .CAT extensions as ASCII types. It may be necessary to either remap these extensions as ASCII in the system or text browser, or else to open the files from within the text browser. ============================================================================== Volume Set Information ============================================================================== The Cassini Orbiter MIMI uncalibrated volume set (COMIMI_0XXX) includes the following volumes: Volume No. Contents ---------- -------------------------------------------------------------- 0000 reference volume ============================================================================== Volume contents ============================================================================== The files on this volume are organized into several subdirectories as described above. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file names. DIRECTORY OR FILE CONTENTS Root | |- AAREADME.TXT This file | |- ERRATA.TXT Description of known anomalies on this volume | |- VOLDESC.CAT Description of the contents of this volume | |- [CALIBRATION] Instrument calibration data | |- [CATALOG] Catalog files describing mission and dataset | |- [DOCUMENT] Relevant documentation | | | |- [MIMI_VOLUME_DESCRIPTION] Archive volume SIS | |- [GEOMETRY] Ancillary instrument data | |- [INDEX] Index files relating to this volume | ============================================================================== Errata ============================================================================== Every effort has been made to ensure that the data and documentation are of the best possible quality. However, mistakes are inevitable. The PPI Node of the PDS will maintain an online list of ERRATA where errors and updates are documented. Should any user of this product find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PPI Node so that the finding can be made public. All users are encouraged to verify the correctness of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. There is a file called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume at the time it was published. If you find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PDS Operator at the PPI Node of the PDS. He was the PPI Node Data Administrator at the time this volume was created and understands as much about the volume structure and data organization as anyone. Other PPI personnel who may be aware of issues related to this archive volume include Mr. Joseph Mafi, and Dr. Raymond Walker, the PDS/PPI Node manager.
