PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2019-05-17 NOTE = "AAREADME.TXT describes this volume." END_OBJECT = TEXT END Cassini Orbiter Magnetometer Raw Magnetic Field Data Archive Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System 1. Introduction This volume contains Cassini magnetometer (MAG) raw data covering 1997-10-28 (DOY 301) to 2017-09-15 (DOY 258). This Cassini Orbiter Magnetometer Raw Data volume contains raw REDR (Reformatted Experimenter Data Record) magnetic-field data from the Cassini Fluxgate (FGM) and Vector-Helium (VHM) Magnetometers. These data have been extracted from telemetry packets, assigned time tags, and formatted into binary tables. The data are in sensor coordinates and in engineering units (data numbers). Software is provided on this volume which will convert the raw data to into nanoTesla, and transform them into different time and coordinate systems. The volume set also includes ancillary engineering, and housekeeping information files, as well as channelized data files (e.g. spacecraft attitude, and MAG subsystem status information). These additional files are provided to facilitate data processing and analysis. 2. Volume format The data set volume is organized into a hierarchical directory structure. The volume contains both the Universal Disk Format (UDF) and the ISO 9660 (level 2)file system standards in order to accommodate users on a wide variety of platforms. 3. File formats The data files on this volume are provided as IGPP Flatfiles which consist of a Sun IEEE binary data file (.FFD extension), and an ASCII header file (.FFH extension). Each data files is accompanied by a detached PDS label file (.LBL extension) which contains information describing the data file and data record format. Document files describing the volume, the data and data-calibration software are included in the volume. Software for calibrating the data, and transforming it to alternative coordinate systems, is provided on the volume. Software files include executable files for PC platforms, and source code (C++) in text files for compilation on other platforms. 4. Volume contents The files on this volume are organised into one Root directory containing several subdirectories. The following table shows the structure and content of these directories. In the table, directory names are enclosed in square brackets, upper-case letters indicate an actual directory or file name, and lower-case letters indicate the general form of a set of directories or file names. Errata Every effort has been made to ensure that the data and documentation are of the best possible quality. However, mistakes are inevitable. The PPI Node of the PDS will maintain an online list of ERRATA where errors and updates are documented. Should any user of this product find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PPI Node so that the finding can be made public. All users are encouraged to verify the correctness of the data prior to submitting any publications or other work based on these data. There is a file called ERRATA.TXT found at the root level of this volume which contains a list of known deficiencies or caveats associated with data on this volume. If you find an error on this volume, please report the error to the PDS Operator at the PPI Node of the PDS.
